Panoramic+Photography

For those of you who don´t know what a QTVR is, it stands for QuickTime Virtual Reality. It’s basically a panoramic image that can be rotated through 360°.

A series of carefully framed photographs are taken using a digital camera on a special tripod. They are then stitched together to form a single image.

The effect is rather like the view from a revolving platform: an unlimited perspective with the viewer at the centre. As you can probably imagine, it´s the perfect way to get an idea of the look and feel of a faraway place – the next best thing to being there in the flesh.

QTVRs are versatile. A series of them can be linked seamlessly together to create an extended ‘tour’ of an entire locale. And they can be generated from 3D computer models to provide an interactive way of exploring virtual spaces.
